Gifted and Talented Program:
Classroom
teachers have been trained to provide differentiated instruction in all
areas of the curriculum to challenge students to reach their greatest
potential. In addition, identified GATE students may participate in a
weekly after school program.
Blues Choir:
The Blues Choir is a before school class for third, fourth,
and fifth graders led by our spectacular music teacher, Kara Baldino.
The Blues Choir is asked to perform at community events such as the
Hometown Fair and the annual winter tree lighting ceremony. The Blues
Choir also performs at school concerts throughout the year.
Elementary School Band:
The Elementary School Band is a "fee for service"
after-school program. There is a $125.00 fee each semester that
includes weekly sessions and the rental of a flute, clarinet, trumpet,
etc. Each student also purchases a $7.00 instruction book. Beginners
sign up at the start of each semester. Continuing students form a band
that performs several times during the year. All classes are held at
the Richmond Street Campus.
CAT Team:
The Richmond Street School Student Conflict Action Team or
"CAT" is a conflict management program involving 30 fourth and fifth
grade students. This program teaches fifth grade students the steps of
conflict resolution. The group meets once each week. Students provide
service to the school by mediating playground problems for the lower
grades at recess and lunch. They can be recognized on campus by their
"CAT" Team jackets.
Student Council:
Our Student Council is comprised of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
students from each of the upper grade classrooms. Our council meets
each week during lunch. However, our time on the job is not limited to
those hours. Our representatives are called to duty throughout the week
when it comes to delivering important messages, giving tours of the
campus, assisting a variety of charities or visiting classrooms to
discuss hot topics. Student Council members raised mony to purchase
books on good character and bully prevention for the school library.
They organized a fund raising drive for victims of the 2004 tsunami and
raised over $6,000 for Save the Children. Our Student Council is on the
cutting edge of site based government. We make things happen!
Fee for Service Programs
such as Drama, Karate, Chess Tutors, and Spanish may be available at
different times throughout the year. Please stop by the school
office for information regarding these programs.
