  MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Richmond Street Families,

The end of the year is upon us. I would like to thank each one of you for your support throughout the year.  We have an outstanding program at Richmond Street School, due in large part to our wonderful parents. I would also like to thank our PTA President, Tammy Long, and her talented executive board.  We are so fortunate to have such a dedicated, hard working and supportive PTA.  I would also like to thank your School Site Council Parent Representatives: Chairperson, Shari Gulian, Beth Stoker, Hector Bonilla, and Laura Nilsson.

I would like to thank the many businesses that contribute to our school, the El Segundo Educational Foundation for its generosity, and the school board and district personnel for their support.  Thank you to our wonderful staff of teachers, instructional assistants, office personnel, custodians, noon supervisors, librarians, crossing guards, and cafeteria workers. Each day these people work very hard to ensure that each child receives an excellent education.

I wish you all a safe, relaxing and joyful summer.  I look forward to seeing you back in September and to those of you who are moving on, I wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,

Dickie Van Breene

Principal

  MESSAGE FROM PTA

I was reminded last month that I didn't thank a few very important people for their help and support over the last two years.......my family.   So officially I would like to thank my husband, Kip and my kids, Savannah, Sophie, Spencer and Scarlett.  Thank you for being so patient while I was busy with meetings and committees. Thank you for not complaining when dinner consisted of Starbucks (coffee and cocoa come from beans, doesn't that count as a vegetable?). Thank you for cutting, pasting, copying, collating and sorting.  Thank you for allowing me to do what I love.  You are the best!

Tammy Long

PTA President

TEACHER APPRECIATION

I would like to thank all those who participated in Teacher Appreciation Week at Richmond Street School the week of May 5-9.   This year our theme was “Richmond Street Teachers Are the Reason Our Students Soar through the Seasons”; each day we celebrated a new season with breakfast for our teachers and ended the week with kites flying high above our teachers as they enjoyed a luncheon.

Thank you to all the parents, businesses and school personnel that donated their time and resources to help make the week such a success.  Special thanks to Stick and Stein for the fruit they provided each morning, the Bitter Family for drinks the entire week, Tracy Layana for the Guess goodies, Ralph’s Photography for  gift certificates for all the teachers and DeLuca’s Restaurant and The Kettle for a delicious catered lunch.

Finally, a special thank you to my wonderful committee - Jane Au, MJ Young, Tammy Long, Shannon Magid, Tammy McGonegle, Wendy Daley, Sonia O’Donoghue, and Deb Stolnak - for all your incredible hard work and creativity.

It was a great week and we all appreciation our wonderful teachers.

SILENT AUCTION DONATIONS – FALL 2008

It is never too early to start planning for our children's future.  Last year the Fall Festival Silent Auction brought in over $20,000.  Summer is the perfect time to start collecting donations for next year. Talk about making a donation with your favorite masseuse, hair stylist, camp or restaurant they would probably love to help our school.  Not only is their donation tax deductible, but it also brings in new clients and is great advertisement.  We also need parent volunteers to help with the auction.  It takes a village to raise a child---it takes a wonderful committee to run an auction.  Please contact Shannon Magid 310-200-7865 or teamsquid5@aol.com if you have any questions or would like to volunteer.
