  PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Richmond Street Families,

Thank you to all of you for completing our School Survey.  The results are available on our school website at http://elsegundousd.com/richmond_school.  Your responses were analyzed by the School Site Council and our staff.  We have set goals and will make changes based on your responses.

Jon Barber, 3rd grade parent, is working to add more depth and variety to our art program with the help of other parent volunteers.  Please complete the flyer that will be coming home today if you wish to participate in this program.

We did very well on our Site Validation Visit for the Distinguished School Award. The visiting team recommended us to the California Department of Education to receive the award.  We will be hearing from the state in April for official recognition.  I would like to thank all the staff, students and parents who help us achieve this significant honor.

Thank you to all of you who participated in the Run for Education, too.  It was fun to see so many Richmond Street students and parents along the course.

Sincerely,

Dickie Van Breene

PTA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

April is here and the year is speeding by!  Your PTA is busy, very busy.  First, a huge thank you to all who volunteered and/or ran the Run for Education.  What a great day!  The Teacher Appreciation Week Committee is well underway with plans for a very special Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  Thank you also to all who donated food for our Distinguished School visit.  It was a very successful day.  There still are positions open for our PTA Board for next year.  In particular, we are looking for a chairperson or co-chairpeople to head our Fall Festival.  This is a really fun event and there are a lot of people who volunteer to help.  We are looking for that special person or people to lead it.  Think about it!

Our Honorary Service Award Winners were announced at last month's PTA meeting.  They are Debra Jacobson, Brandy Smith, Eng Szetho, and Laura Nilsson.  Congratulations to each of our winners!  They will be awarded their pins at the Founder's Day Celebration on the 29th of this month.

I would also like to say thank you to Dr. Yantz who came and spoke with us last month at our PTA meeting.  It was very informative to hear about the upcoming budget and proposed cuts.  Also, thank you to the huge turn-out of teachers at that meeting.  It was great to see you and I hope to see you again. Our April meeting is the first day back from break so don't forget, April 14th at 7:15 pm.  See you there!

Tammy Long

You may also track your child’s books and due dates by going to www.eslib.org.  Click on “Your Library Account” and type in your name or your child’s name, the barcode number and your password. You can also renew books this way. If you do not know your child’s barcode number you can call or visit the RSS Library (ext. 408) or the El Segundo Public Library (310-524-2722). Your child’s card is kept at the RSS Library through the 5th grade.
