Segundo Unified School District schools have new bell schedules this year to
provide additional instructional time for students and regular professional
development time for teachers.
Throughout the district, most Minimum Days have been scheduled on
Mondays, giving families a more predictable school calendar.

Every Monday will be a Minimum Day. Principals
will distribute dates for eleven additional minimum days, scheduled for
parent/teacher conferences, First Day of School, Back to School Night, Open
House, and the Last Day of School. No
other minimum days are scheduled.

The additional minutes included in
this schedule add the equivalent of 15
instructional days to each school year.

Period 2 will be sixty minutes long
to allow time for announcements.
Fourteen Monday minimum days will be scheduled for staff development,
and one day each for Back to School Night and Open House. In addition, three days per semester students
will be on Final Examination Day Schedule.
All team athletics, with the
exception of surf team, now will be scheduled during sixth period. The new
lunch time has been set to accommodate student athletes who previously had to
be excused from 6th period to attend away games. Pending sufficient enrollment, the District
will offer academic classes online, in Zero or 7th periods, in the
evenings, and during summer school to provide additional opportunities for
students to meet graduation and college entrance requirements.
The additional minutes included in
this new schedule add the equivalent of 22
instructional days to each school year.
