CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION
A1.
1. We need to develop strategies to integrate student understanding of the connections between the curriculum, the content standards and the Eagle Expectations into the daily curriculum.
2. We need to provide more formal opportunities for teachers to develop cross-curricular projects and units.
3. We need to improve articulation between the high school and the middle school.
4. We need to revise the Student Handbook to better serve students and their parents.
5. We need to continue to expand our system of tracking students after graduation.

1. Although eleventh graders have several opportunities to begin to plan their futures beyond high school students and parents believe and express a need for more formalized guidance..
2. We need Improved communication between the counseling department and all stakeholders.
3. With the help of the El Segundo Education Foundation and the ESHS technology class, we have begun to devise a process to track our students after they graduate from high school. This process needs to be expanded and maintained.

1. More staff development time needs to be allocated for teachers to analyze student data so that curriculum can be modified where necessary to ensure the success of all students.
2. We need to further support the needs of students who are not classified as “at risk” or “high achieving.”
3. We need to develop a process by which we better track our students after graduation in order to determine the success of our program.

1. We need staff development on applying various teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students, especially male students, and students who demonstrate below expected grade level performance within the classroom and on standardized tests.
2. We need to incorporate teaching strategies that improve reading skills across the curriculum, especially in algebra, science, and language arts in order to master critical and abstract thinking skills.
3. We need to incorporate technology more seamlessly into daily curriculum.

1. We need to improve the perception of the counseling program by students, parents, and teachers.
2. We need to better communicate with the students, parents, and teachers concerning the myriad of support programs available.
3. We need to update and expand the Career Center.
4. We need to define a GATE program and allocate funds accordingly.

1. Teachers work in isolation in their classrooms on teaching strategies; time and resources for collaborative efforts are not in place.
2. Campus cleanliness is a problem at El Segundo High School.

1. Educators need workshops and more collaboration time to disseminate current research-based knowledge about teaching and learning as it relates to the standards, the Eagle Expectations, and our critical academic needs.
