Meeting Minutes

El Segundo High School Library

December 1, 2004

 

The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm by President Kathie Stabile.  She led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.  Suz Truax was appointed acting parliamentarian in the absence of Tammy Reeves.

 

Inspiration – Aleta Pottenger

Aleta was ill, so Kathie read a selection entitled “Reflections for Parents” in her absence.

 

Correspondence – Carolyn Elder

We received a thank you note from the El Segundo Educational Foundation regarding our $50.00 donation in honor of Carlene Tenaca for the arts and music program.

 

Secretary Report – Marva Murray

Marva moved that the minutes of the November 3rd meeting be approved as written.  Motion carried.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Brenda Ross

The balance on hand as of November 1, 2004 was $26,798.37.  Receipts in the amount of $2,050.00 and disbursements in the amount of $1,066.48 gave us a balance on hand as of November 30, 2004 of $27,781.89.

 

Unfinished Business

The lock-down kits have been ordered and should be delivered before Christmas. 

 

New Business

The guidance department would like to utilize a program called Getin2College.com.  Counselor Suzie Moon already paid for the program out of her own pocket.  Jayne Pimlott moved that we reimburse Suzie Moon for the cost of the Getin2College program at a cost not to exceed $129.00.  Motion Carried.

Robin Funk moved that we accept School Pop as a fundraiser for the 2004-2005 school year.  Motion Carried.

 

Principal’s Report – Dr. Hart

Dr. Hart went over the upcoming schedule of activities.  He answered questions regarding Powerschool.  There will be a college financial aid workshop on January 6th.  There will be a school-wide astronomy project during the week of December 6 – 12.

 

Student Report

Amber reported that there will be a Senior Citizen’s Tea on Dec. 16th.

A Winter Formal is being planned for January 8th to be held on the football field.  The Sophomore class is in charge.

 

School Board Report – Chris Powell

A Summer Reading Policy committee is being led by Joann Gen.  The books will be read  and will be judged for grade level/age appropriateness.  A rating G or PG will be devised to assist parents in guiding their children’s choices for the summer reading program assigned by the school.

Construction for the final phase of the High School is coming along well.

 

Executive Board Reports

 

President – Kathie Stabile

Kathie attended a meeting for the Run for Education.

 

Parliamentarian – Tammy Reeves

We are requesting a letter of incorporation for our PTA.

 

Fund-Raising – Barbara Briney

The on-going brick project is doing well.  We will be putting in another order.

 

Committee Reports

 

Membership – Joan Lindsey

All but 8 teachers have joined our PTA this year.

 

Eagle Ears – Tammy Reeves

Please get any reports to Tammy as soon as possible.

 

Programs – Robin Funk

Robin reported on a South Bay Adult School speaker named Jim Trelease who inspires children to read.

 

Class Reports

  • Freshmen - They will be selling ornaments at the tree lighting ceremony.
  • Sophomores - The blankets and polo shirts are in.  They will be making plans for the Winter Ball.
  • Juniors - They will be busy after the winter break with prom plans.  They have been working very hard on the snack bar. 
  • Seniors - They are looking into a possible alternate site for grad night.  Universal Studios may be chosen.  The senior T-shirt is being designed.  They are preparing for graduation.

It was agreed to ratify checks #2243 – 2246 and to pay current bills, authorizing payments # 2243 – 2246 to be drawn and the treasurer to pay the same in the amount of

Announcements

      

The choir will be taking a trip to Boston and Montreal on Feb. 26th. 

Babes in Toyland will be performed in our high school auditorium at the end of January.
