Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm by President Kathie Stabile. 

 

Introductions

Kathie introduced Kathy Wiley, JoAnn Edlefsen, Mr. Garza, Ms. Harada, Maxine Walsleben, and Julie Burkhard.

 

Correspondence

We received a huge thank you banner from the High School teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week.

 

Secretary Report – Marva Murray

The approved minutes were sent around for signatures.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Brenda Ross

The balance on hand as of May l, 2005 was $16,182.17.  Receipts in the amount of $777.00 and disbursements in the amount of $1,794.30 gave us a balance on hand as of May 31, 2005 of $15,164.87 

 

Unfinished Business

Kathie thanked Kathy Gardner and her committee for the great Teacher Appreciation week.  We went over budget.  It was moved by Robin Funk and seconded that we pay $50.25 bills for Teacher Appreciation.  Motion carried.

 

New Business

We would like to have a Bookfair Fundraiser at the Barnes and Noble store in Manhattan Beach.  Our PTA would get a percentage of books sold for one night.  It was moved by Beth Muraida and seconded that we approve a Barnes and Noble night  for a 2005-2006 fundraiser.  Motion carried.

 

Principal’s Report – Mr. Garza

Mr. Garza thanked the PTA for another great year, and for a wonderful Teacher

Appreciation  Week.  The CAHSEE results were sent in the mail and all students are finished with testing.  Officer Calvin Smith presented the “Every 15 Minutes” program.  The prom was a great success.  The Varsity baseball team is in play-offs and will play at Angel Stadium on this Saturday at 10:00.  Senior Awards Night will be June 13th. 

Ms. Harada reassured us that the dress code would remain the same for next year with no uniforms required.  She informed us about summer school schedules and  application  deadlines.     

 

 

 

School Board Report – Kathy Wiley

Kathy explained some high school construction issues.  She attended a joint meeting with the facilities committee and the school board.  All rooms should be completed by the beginning of school.  The PTA presidents went with Mr. Auld and Chris Powell to Sacramento for a lobby trip.  Chris Sherill is organizing a celebration in conjunction with Homecoming for the completion of the school.

 

Student Report – Julie Burkhard

Julie is the new ASB Vice-President, and will be our student representative for next year.  She reported that the prom was very nice.

 

Executive Board Reports

 

President – Kathie Stabile

Kathie asked us to check that all directory information is correct.  Please sign up for committees for next year.  Jayne Pimlott is in charge of packet stuffing and registration sign-ups.  Committee meetings will be held over the summer.  Thanks to ESHS PTA members who served for the Donation to Ed Foundation.  A token of appreciation was given to the board members in thanks of a wonderful year. 

 

Committee Reports

 

Scholarship – Denise Fucci

The committee has had several meetings.  Two recipients have been chosen and each will receive their $500.00 scholarship at Awards Night.

 

Class Reports

  • Seniors –   They are preparing for Baccalaureate and Graduation. 
  • Juniors   The prom was a huge success.  
  • Sophomores    They are selling blankets and leis for graduation.
  • Freshmen – The class is still selling the sun catchers etched with ESHS for $18.

 

Programs – Robin Funk

Robin has set up another practice session for the SAT.  The test will be on Saturday, September 24th, and the workshop will be on Saturday, October 1st.  There will be a Kaplan practice test on June 25th at 10:00 at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center with a writing practice to be held on July 21st.

 

Legislation Trip – Robin Funk

Robin explained about the legislation trip to Sacramento that was attended by the superintendent, Mr. Auld, and the PTA presidents. 

 

Ed Foundation – Suz Truax

Suz reported that the foundation had raised the $250,000.00 to reach the goal to “Bridge the Gap” for the school district.

 

 

Community Service –

On Sunday, June 5th, there will be a garden tour of homes in the South Bay area.  The donation is $20.00 and it is being sponsored by the El Segundo Auxiliary for Children’s Hospital.

 

Bills to Be Paid – Paula Koch

It was agreed to ratify checks #2374– 2377 and to pay current bills, authorizing payments # 2274 – 2277 to be drawn and the treasurer to pay the same in the amount of

$2,237.14.

Class of 2005 –

It was moved by Barbara Briney and seconded that the senior class of 2005 bills be paid by June 30th, and that they will not exceed current balance in the account.  Motion passed.

 

 

Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned by President Kathie Stabile at 8:35 with installation of new officers to follow.
