Computer Accounting Rubric

Evidence of understanding, and the application of that understanding to recording and summarizing financial records (in alignment with standard accounting principals and practices) is measured in points.  Points are earned by completing according simulation projects and by test scores designed to measure understanding of accounting principals.  Accounting projects are done by hand and also with the aide of Microsoft Excel as a tool to facilitate the quality, speed and accuracy of the recording and summarizing process.

Points are totaled for both project work and for test scores. Then, since any unacceptable work is returned to the student for revision until it is perfect, the following rubric can be used to evaluate both quantity and quality on a relative basis.

Points are graded for each of three different activities designed to measure understanding, application of that understanding or production rate.

Tests designed to measure both understanding, and the application of that understanding, are based on a percentage score of correct answers.  100 points for 100%, 80 points for 80% etc.

Project work, designed to measure accurate application of understanding, is awarded points for completion.  Unacceptable work is returned for revision.

Production points are earned for meeting deadlines for completion of specific milestone reference points by certain dates within a long project.

Total points are calculated for all three categories on a regular basis and each student total is compared to the highest total score achieved at that point in order to determine a percent of the total grade for each.

Rubric scoring for total points earned

6 = 100 points earned

5 = 90-99 points earned

4 = 80-89 points earned

3 = 70-79 points earned

2 = 60-69 points earned

1 = Less than 60 points earned
