Treasurer’s Report - Brenda Ross
The balance on hand as of June 1, 2003 was $13,100.87 with receipts in the amount of $512.00 and disbursements in the amount of $2,099.10 leaving a balance on hand as of August 31, 2003 of $11,513.77.  The treasurer’s report was accepted and attached for audit (see attached).  The El Segundo High School PTA budget for 2003-2004 was read by Barbara Briney and will be posted for review (see attached).

Principal’s Report - Dr. Hart
Dr. Hart shared the events of the first day of school.  He reported that Powerschool, the program used to report attendance, is not functioning at this time so attendance is being recorded by hand.  There are currently 1081 students at ESHS, but actual attendance may be 1107.  As a result of our large student enrollment, an additional Spanish teacher may be added to accommodate the students.  The 1076 lockers on campus are not enough and there is a waiting list of 31 students.  There is an ongoing process to fill and distribute earthquake bags to each class.  Construction is currently in ’Phase 3’, which includes science and technology buildings and the main gym.  Boys basketball will be played off campus this season and construction should be completed mid-May.  The last phase of construction will include the cafeteria, north gym, the old science building and the woodshop/art building. The football snack bar will also be replaced during this phase of construction. That phase should take about a year to complete. During the renovation, Photography class will be in the technology building and languages will remain at the District Office. Sports to begin this week include water polo Monday vs. Burroughs, volleyball Tuesday vs. Crossroads, football is this Friday vs. Mary Star and   girl’s tennis will play Palos Verdes.  Back to School Night will take place on Wednesday, September 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Coronation Ball will not be held in the main gym, its usual location, due to current construction.  Several alternate venues are being considered. The faculty meeting schedule for the year can be found in the student handbook.

School Board Report - Jo Ann Edlefsen
Mrs. Edlefsen reported that Chris Powell was in Sacramento regarding the Measure E bond money.  He is working to insure the highest possible rate on our bonds.

President’s Report - Barbara Briney
Mrs. Briney welcomed everyone back.  Folders will be going out to board and committee members regarding information on their positions.  The Eagle Ears will be published twice between now and Christmas break.  The deadline to Noelle Salinda for the next edition is September 19.
