WorkAbility I Program Description
WorkAbility I is a training program for Special
Education students ages 16-22. It is
designed to promote career awareness while students complete their secondary
education (high school) program. WorkAbility I provides students with opportunities for job shadowing, paid
and non-paid work experience, and ongoing support and guidance from vocational
personnel. WorkAbility I is administered by the California Department of Education, Special Education Division.

Transition Partnership Program (TPP)
Upon completion of WorkAbility I, students
are eligible to apply for the Transition Partnership Program. El Segundo Unified School District has a new
agreement in partnership with the California State Department of
Vocation/Rehabilitation to build and establish successful transitioning of
youth with disabilities into competitive employment upon completion of public
school.
Benefits of “TPP” for your son or daughter:
- Referral to the Department of Rehabilitation
while still enrolled in school
- Provides for technical and physical assistance
if needed for training and employment.
(This includes adaptive devices, job coaching, transportation
training and access to Career Education staff)
- Assists with work experience placements as the
student prepares for the world of work
- Follows-up with students after leaving school
Eligibility
Requirements:
- Student preparing to enter his/her second
semester junior year of high school
- Student meets the eligibility requirements of
the Department of Rehabilitation
- Students need to have appropriate work behaviors,
habits and attendance
- Students are motivated to participate in a
minimum of at least three job clubs, before being placed in a “work
experience” placement
- Parents approve and support the student
preparing to enter the world of work
