Course Title: Math Analysis

Department: Mathematics

Grade Levels: 11 –12

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course combines many of the trigonometric, geometric, and algebraic techniques needed to prepare students for the study of calculus and other advanced courses.  It brings closure to some topics first brought up in earlier courses, such as Algebra 2. The functional viewpoint is emphasized in this course as is mathematical reasoning. Algebraic techniques used in this course will re-enforce students’ prior knowledge and bridge necessary skills needed for success at the college level.  The algebraic areas to be covered include logarithmic and exponential functions, rational and polynomial functions, and conic sections. The purpose of this course is to re-enforce and further develop the mathematical skills of students who do not meet the prerequisites for enrollment in pre-calculus at ESHS.  Students who finish this course should be fully prepared for success in pre-calculus at the college level.

Length:  one semester ( Spring semester only )

Prerequisite for enrollment: 80% or better in Algebra 2 and enrollment in first semester Statistics

Recommendation for enrollment:  Teacher recommendation and desire for challenging college preparatory course

Type of Course:  College preparatory (pending UC/CSU approval) and meets math graduation requirement.
