Toothpaste for Dinner by Kate Proto
Late one night as I was searching
the great abyss we like to call the World Wide Web, I stumbled across a gem of
a website. The title, Toothpastefordinner.com, intrigued me. You might be
wondering, "Toothpaste for dinner? Oh! That is quite bizarre. In fact, it
is bizarre…but about as unrelated to toothpaste as Elton John is to classical
music. The premise of said website is simple. Entertainment.
Specifically, entertainment for nerds such as me with an
eclectic sense of humor. Each day, a new drawing emerges from the
creative minds of Dan, Onstad, Natalie, Furyu, Kurt, Leslie and Jeff…the talented crew behind
Toothpaste for Dinner. A short, hilariously out there comment, accompanies each
drawing. You'll laugh, you'll cry…you might even leave
the room in a fit of rage. This website induces thousands of emotions.
Toothpaste
for Dinner is along the same lines as Dilbert, in the sense that it pokes fun
at corporate America, which is always a plus. While Dilbert is moderately funny
at times, Toothpaste is leaps and bounds superior. Hamsters, vampires and crazy
uncles are common motifs among the many cartoons that appear daily. Bits of
wisdom are often acquired after a Toothpaste experience. "If your pet fits
in your pocket, you have no excuse not to take it to the museum with you."
Such a bit of knowledge can be used on several school functions. Take your
hamster to the Getty!
I really hope each of the tens of
thousands of people who read this article, enlighten themselves by visiting
toothpaste for dinner. It really is a hilarious way to spend 8 hours. I mean
what!? I've never done that…
