“High School Reunion”- America’s Best New Reality Show

By Joy Thiel

Have you ever wondered what your ten-year high school reunion will be like? Well what if you got a chance to be on hit new reality T.V. show and reunite with fifteen of your classmates in Oahu, Hawaii? Although this sounds like most people’s fantasy, for others this could be their worst nightmare.

The high school chosen to be under human display for the duration of two whole weeks was from Round Rock, Texas, class of 1993. Although this is only “High School Reunion’s” first month on the WB, conflicts and romances, have begun and ended for Round Rock High School’s class of 1993.

The cast includes class of 1993’s finest, from Homecoming Queen to the Geek. There are even three young ladies from class of 1995, who recently joined the cast, and who are set to stir up trouble and turn up the heat.

After ten years the cast must confront their differences, resolve problems, and reunite with people they never thought they would see again. The first episode LouAnn (The Homecoming Queen) is given the first hall pass, which is the ability to leave the house and have a romantic evening with anyone at the reunion. On this evening LouAnn is dropped off at a football field and discovers she is being reunited with her high school sweetheart Johnny (The Quarterback). The second pass is given to Denise (The Ex) who, wants to get back together with the first person she claims to have fallen in love with, and invites her ex-husband Gabe (The Jock).

Problems arise when T.J. (The Redneck) moves out of the house when he discovers his roommate is Daniel (The Gay Guy). Then drama continues when 3 girls from the class of 1995 arrive to confront Gabe and his ex-wife Denise about how Gabe broke their hearts when they were just sophomores.

Another episode that raises hairs and debates is when Daniel's surprise birthday party includes all the men at the party dressing in grass skirts and a male stripper to spice up the evening. The next day Daniel is fed up with T.J.’s prejudice and challenges him to a boxing match, which ends in a hug.

Overnight hall passes are given to Trevor (The Pipsqueak), who gets romantic with Amanda (The Sophomore Tease) over rose petal baths and massages; and LouAnn invites Johnny on her hall pass in hoping that she can decide her feelings for him and her boyfriend back home in Dallas, Texas. Heather F. (The Sophomore Vixen) gets ready to confront Gabe when she receives her first hall pass and invites him for a day on Waikiki Beach, leaving an angry Denise behind.

Some of the events that have taken place on recent episodes have fallen into the categories of hilarious, outrageous, and absurd. At any rate, the show truly proves how people just come to their high school reunions to either show how successful they’ve become or to get pity from everyone. The only difference in this scenario is that they must live, discuss, and cope with their insecurities and mistakes, in the homes of millions of Americans for two weeks.
