Weird California State Laws
Jade Silvas
I’m sure that each of these weird laws served some sort of purpose when they were made, or maybe there was a stupid criminal trying to do things. Now we can all look back at them and say, “What the heck were they thinking?” It really makes you wonder about the government officials we elected to run our government.
Males may not dress as a female
without a special permit. No man or boy shall dress as woman without a permit
from the sheriff except for the purpose of amusement, drama, or show.
You
cannot bathe two babies in the same tub at the same time. Junior, Lauren J.
Peters says, “The state of California doesn’t know what it feels like to
have twins.”
It is prohibited to sleep in a
parked vehicle. No person shall sleep in any automobile or other vehicle parked
on any sidewalks, street, alley, or other public place, including any approved
private street or right-of-way.
Animals are banned from mating
publicly within 1,500 feet of a tavern, school, or place of worship. Senior Jeremy
Anderson says, “It is vulgar to see an animal `mating’ in public, just as
it is for humans.
Bathhouses are against the law. This
law was enacted shortly after the AIDS epidemic came into the News in the
1980’s. Bathhouses were on of the primary places people could go for anonymous
sex. This law was designed to stop exposure to HIV and other STD’s.
It is a misdemeanor to shoot any
kind of game from a moving vehicle, unless the target is a whale. Senior Liz
Burciaga says, “It’s because of the protection of the species. You can’t
shoot a whale in a car!” The sad part is, somebody must have tried to do this
otherwise there wouldn’t be a law concerning it.
Bowling on the sidewalk is illegal.
It is unlawful for any person to bowl or play any other game upon any street,
sidewalk, lane, or alley. It is illegal to wipe one’s car with used underwear.
Sophomore Andrea Areo says, ”I think it exists because hillbillies in
trailers don’t have anything else to use and it’s very unhealthy.”
Driving a herd of cattle down a
street is against the law. It is unlawful to drive, herd, or cause to be driven
or herded upon any public street, alley, sidewalk, or public place any cattle,
horses, mules, hogs, sheep, or goats.
The owners of houses with Christmas lights
on them past February 2 may be fined up to $250. Senior Jamie Rockfelt
says, “My parents always leave up their Christmas tree and lights up till
almost the summer. I guess we should be arrested.”
If you ever find yourself getting
arrested or ticketed for any of these, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
