Queer Eye for El Segundo High by Crystal Carroll

A new show has hit primetime television that is sweeping the nation by storm. "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" is the new hit series on Bravo, which has become one of the hottest series shows this year. The show primarily focuses on five gay men who help culturally impaired straight men by finding hip and stylish clothes. They also teach how to prepare a gourmet meal, etiquette, hair fashions and using new hair products, and have their apartment remodeled. In the end, the new straight man shows his love and appreciation towards the girlfriend, wife, or mom, whom he is trying to impress with his new lifestyle.

The geniuses behind all of this hard work are the five men, also known as the "Fabulous Five," who do the makeovers. First, there is the very flamboyant and outgoing Carson Kressley. His job is to give the straight man a new look in fashionable clothes. Kyan Douglas, the grooming specialist, helps in skin care and also the hair industry. Ted Allen is the food and wine specialist, who helps in creating fine dishes and desserts. There is also Jai Rodriguez who helps in conversational skills and dancing and Thom Filicia, who has a strong, established reputation as an interior designer.

As for the "Fab Five" coming to El Segundo High School, well that will not happen anytime soon. But there is a way for someone to show off her magic and talent through a straight man at our school. And the perfect teacher to get a makeover is Mr. Lubs. He was jazzed up and to look sharp in his new cowboy theme wardrobe. Not only was he cool and hip, but he will be transformed into a whole new American history teacher.

I walked up to Mr. Lubs during lunch, and began to tell him about my plans of giving him a makeover. I told him the students and teachers thought he would be a great candidate for a makeover. One person who chose him was Ms. Smith, the volleyball coach. She told me, "Mr. Lubs' wardrobe needs updating. He always wears airwalks and pink shorts, and they have to go." He did not quite know what to expect after I told him that the voters chose him, as he looked peculiarly at me. He then found out that he had won the poll. He was like, "They did that because I have no fashion sense; I don't dress nice!" I retorted that it was because everyone likes him and that he would be a really fun and easygoing guy to work with. Making sure that he was not offended in anyway, I was reassured that he was all but happy to do the makeover. He definitely changed his look from cool teacher to trendy all-American cowboy instructor. Yeee-hawww!

During the makeover, Mr. Lubs was definitely having a good time. He even mentioned that he liked the coat, but it was not something that he would wear on a normal day. Overall, he was a really good sport about it. He laughed and enjoyed every minute of it.

This was just a small part in what the "Fab Five" do every week, but it just shows how much fun they have doing this. And, like the end of the show, I sign off by saying, "Oh, things just keep getting better!"
