Fashion
Problems at El Segundo High

Winter
is about to start, and we all know what that means: the end of “who can wear
the shortest shorts”, and the beginning of “who can wear the tightest jeans”.
Too many girls who aren’t built like models try to wear the same things as
super skinny stick-girls, and it just isn’t a pretty sight.
The
too tight: Big isn’t necessarily bad, in fact, many guys aren’t attracted to
girls they’re afraid to break, but that doesn’t mean you have license to wear
the same kind of clothes as someone that is built much more petite than you.
Wear clothes that flatter your body type, it’s as easy as that.
The
too small: No one wants to see so much of their fellow classmates’ stomachs,
legs, butts and chests. It’s less attractive to leave so little to the
imagination, especially when it’s something that SHOULD be left to our
imaginations. No one is asking you to wear a turtle neck, overalls, and a goose
down parka zipped up to your throat, but it’s really not appropriate or
appealing to any one if someone is nearly naked.
The
too big: Again, wear what flatters your body. Big and baggy is anything but
flattering. If it’s slipping off your body or so baggy that you can’t tell
there really is a body underneath all the folds of cloth, you shouldn’t wear
it! Of course, you don’t want to go as far as fitting into the “too tight”
section, but there is a vast middle ground that isn’t difficult to fit into.
The
too common: How many times in a day do you see the Dickey’s logo or Converse
shoes? Doesn’t anyone understand how boring it is to see the exact same thing
on everyone in the entire school? Don’t wear what everyone else is wearing just
because they’re all wearing it. Buy clothes you like and what looks good on
you, not your friends. And, if what you like happens to be what’s common, give
it your own twist so people know you’re not just part of the conformist cult
that is all too evident. Always remember: too normal is boring.
The
tacky: While some may think it’s cool to wear the brightest, gaudiest, and most
conspicuous thing they can, it’s really just tacky. It seems to be a quite
popular trend for people to just enter a thrift store, find the brightest thing
their eye spots, purchase it, and leave. Color is good, but when you’re just
trying see exactly how much you can get away with, it looks bad. Slow down with
the drastic patterns and extremely bright colors and let our eyes rest. People
will appreciate your clothes more if they can actually look at them without
getting a headache.
If
you want to get the RIGHT kind of attention this winter, remember to keep these
guidelines in mind when you’re out shopping for your new winter wardrobe.
