Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
By Taylor Kagy
This year's awaited blockbuster, Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist, was released on October 3, 2008. Director Peter Sollett did an exquisite job bringing the story of Nick and Norah (based on a book by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan) to the big screen. Through hard work and devotion, both cast and crew brought this amazing film to life. It was a masterpiece of the silver screen.
The story of a heartbroken boy named Nick Yidaris whose girlfriend breaks up with him, sets up the plot. His best friends find him sulking and force him out of the house to play in their band at a bar and for a night out on the town. Additionally, they seek out the location of the secret performance of their favorite band, 'Where's Fluffy'. While out, Nick meets Norah Silverbug, who is desperate to find a boyfriend for five minutes in order to get her friend Tris (played by Alexis Dziena) off her back about the subject. Norah ends up choosing Nick as her 'temporary boyfriend.' The problem? Tris is the girl that broke Nick's heart in the first place. Nick's friends decide that Norah is the girl for him and try to get them together, promising to get Norah's drunken friend safely home and let Nick and Norah ride alone to find 'Where's Fluffy'. The plan seemed to go smoothly until Nicks friends decide to make a quick stop and Norah's friend, who is drunk, wakes up drunk in the back of their van and does not know where she is. In a frenzy, she decides to ditch the car before they come back, thinking that she has been kidnapped. The rest of the night is spent on a wild goose chase trying to find the 'lost drunk.'
This film was quite a crowd pleaser as one could infer from its popularity. The movie was the quintessence of 'cute, corny and humorous love story' all rolled into a single, two hour film. Michael Ceras performance as Nick Yidiaris was phenomenal. He is truly THE loveable geek boy. Kat Dennings stared as Norah Silverbug and also gave quite an amazing and believable performance. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (PG-13) is a fun and humorous goose chase that will keep its audience laughing and on the edge of their seats. The audience can't help but feel compassion and love for the characters in this movie. Overall, this movie was everything expected and more and anyone who sees this movie will want to watch it over and over again.
This movie is recommended for anyone over thirteen or that has the ability to be mature during scenes with 'bad language' or 'mature situations'. Anyone who wants to see this movie will not be disappointed. Although this movie could be considered more of a borderline chick flick, any guy who sees this movie will also enjoy it. Go to your local theatre and catch this flick. It's definitely worth it!
