UP
By Taylor Kagy
The first great Pixar film of 2009, titled UP, was released on May 29, 2009. The movie was directed by Pete Docter, who did an amazing job creating and bringing UP to the big screen. The film includes the voiceover talents of Edward Asner as Carl Fredricksen and Jordan Nagai as Russell. The two definitely did a great job bringing the characters to life and showing the chemistry between them using only their voices.
The story unfolds as a man named Carl loses his wife to old age and is forced by court order to move into the Shady Oaks Retirement Home. Carl comes up with a scheme to keep his promise to Ellie, which was to travel and experience the world. He creates a makeshift airship using thousands of helium balloons which lift his house off the ground. As Carl is about to launch to his adventure, Russell, a Wilderness Explorer trying to earn his "Assisting the Elderly" badge, shows up on Carl's doorstep. He stows away on this porch and soon finds himself on the adventure of a lifetime. They travel all around and find themselves in the most peaceful of places and the most vicious and dangerous situations, yet overcome all of the obstacles by sticking together.
Pixar Studios did an amazing job with the animation of UP. The storyline was completely fascinating and adventurous, making the movie definitely worth seeing. This movie is recommended for just about anyone of any age, especially for someone looking for a good movie to see with younger siblings. Make sure that during your next trip to the movie theaters, you pick up tickets to see this amazing Pixar animation.
