EDITORIAL//Last Days
Every year is different, bringing its own unique class to ESHS and watching the school change in the wake of another class leaving. One thing that is the same, however, is the parallelism of the emotions at the end of the year. At this time, the imminent closing of the school for the summer (at least for those who don’t have summer school) signals a rush of emotions the likes of which we see every year. The final bell rings in the hall, and where there was once silence an explosion of noise ripples outward. Hugs of joy, screams of laughter, and cheerful cries all strain to finally leave the confines of the school building, and mix together into a cacophony of excited voices. In minutes, it is over. An eerie silence descends as the horde of students pushing towards the door finally exits. Bits of paper float to the floor, and outside the excitement is still palpable while, as far as the eye can see, groups of students are headed off in every direction.
This joyous occasion is the light at the end of the tunnel for every student, and for some even more momentous. This is the day that society has formally accepted into its fold another generation of bright young minds, in this case the Class of 2009, who will continue onward to become the great members of society that their training as Eagles allows them to be. On that evening, at graduation, one chapter closes and another begins as the guard is changed. It is a time we should all remember, the completion of a year, and the preparation of the slate for the next.
