Volleyball Keeps It up
by Dylan Coplin, Sports Editor

The Eagles made a big leap out of the loser's column. The Eagles are currently 3-2 in the pre-season. The game against St. Monica on September 15 was an excellent one. Offensively, junior Cody Davis carried the ball 9 times for 45 yards and sophomore Gage Morteson carried the ball for 114 yards and one touchdown. In the passing game, quarterback, senior Mike Quinones, threw 10/17 and a total of 118 yards. Sophomore Kevin Post caught 3 passes each for a touchdown and junior Rechad Nesssary grabbed 2 passes for 63 yards. Defensively, junior Trevor Richter had 8 tackles, sophomore Andrew Horn made 6 tackles and 2 sacks and Morteson had a total of 9 tackles for the defense. The final score was 43-6 boosting the Eagles spirit from the devastating loss against West Torrance the week before.
On September 22, the game against Mary Star was also a phenomenal game with the final score of 34-28. Quinones completed 14/31 passes for a total of 313 yards. Senior Travonn Smith caught 2 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown; Post received 2 passes for 89 yards with a touchdown; and senior John Yessner snatched 7 passes for a whopping 132 yards. Defensively, Morteson had 10 tackles and showed the Eagle fans how great their defense is.
The following week the Eagles gouged the St. Bernard Vikings in a monstrous win with the score of 21-18. Quinones passed 20/28 for a total of 241 yards. Senior Tyler Murray grabbed 9 passes for 61 yards and Yessner retrieved 4 passes for 65 yards. On defense, Richter was so superior at tackling that he created 8 total tackles and owned the St. Bernard offensive line.
The homecoming game was not so great. The Eagles suffered a hard-fought loss with the final score of 28-34, it was a very close game. Quinones completed 13/28 for 216 yards. Murray snatched 5 passes for 66 yards and had an astonishing 60 yard touchdown run. Post had 6 receptions for 121 yards and Morteson carried the ball 13 times for 69 yards. The homecoming game closed with the Eagles down by 6, 20 yards away from the goal line with 15 seconds remaining.  The end of the game electrified the stadium until the very end. Unfortunately, the Eagles could not score in time and lost by 6 points.
