Gilmore Girls
By Emma Smith

After seven whirlwind years, the renowned television show Gilmore Girls recently came to an end. Staring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel, the show opened a door into the lives of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore, a mother-daughter combination living in the small town of Stars Hollow. Lorelai became pregnant with Rory when she was sixteen. After having baby Rory, she moved out of her parents’ house and took up residence in Stars Hollow. Sixteen years later, Rory switched schools to be able to attend the prestigious high school of Chilton, a step toward her dreams of attending Harvard University and becoming a journalist. As the show continued, Rory’s hardships at the new cutthroat school are coupled with her single mother’s work and relationship issues. Rory eventually ended up attending Yale University instead of Harvard. Lorelai seemed to have finally found a solid relationship with Luke, owner of a local diner and longtime friend of the girls. However, as issues arose, Luke and Lorelai split up and Rory had college issues. The inseparable team made of mother and daughter suddenly split. After later healing the rift, Rory graduated from Yale. In the final episode, she was offered her first real job as a traveling journalist. Unsure of when they would meet again, mother and daughter began a whirlwind of packing and planning. Meanwhile Luke, Lorelai’s former love, made preparations for a giant town farewell party. Despite numerous obstacles including secret setups and impending rain, Lorelai and Rory were able to see just how much they had touched the lives of all those who lived in the small town of Stars Hollow. As Luke and Lorelai again admitted their feelings for one another, the town celebrated Rory’s success and an event that was, in many ways, both an ending and a beginning.
