Brittany Crawford

Some may know her as the girl who wore the pompadour hair last year. Or the one who has a confused look on her face in the hall because she is contemplating her next meal/adventure. I personally know her as one of my closest and funniest friends.

Brittany Rose Crawford was born November 24, 1989 to Rita Lynn Crawford and David George Crawford at Cedars-Sinai hospital in West Hollywood. She was brought up in Westchester, Hawthorne and primarily Del Air. Brittany had an "awkward" childhood, she says. "I went to a private Baptist school from Kindergarten through 2nd grade and I always felt so weird that I was Jewish." But then it became a little easier when she meet life long friend Rebecca Bertran who kept her sane and was a constant companion to young Brittany. Having some great parents did not hurt either. "I've always been able to tell them (almost) everything and I love that. “They acknowledge the fact that they were teenagers once too so their not too hard on me when I mess up." She is also very close to her sister, "She's pretty much my best friend and there's no one I feel more comfortable around."

Middle school was a glorious time in Brittany's life.  She went to Dana Middle School where she was actively involved in the school's plays and also quite the Good Charlotte Fan. Brittany thought that in middle school, her and her friends "completely ruled the school (we so did)."

High school sort of crept up on Brittany. She felt like she really didn’t know who she was but was constantly looking to express herself. “I was skeptical about coming here, but I instantly became friends with Sari Jonas and Erin Matchett, who had a huge impact on my life.” She has been an active participant in clubs, journalism as well as yearbook. Also, she has challenged herself by taking AP History, Language, Biology and Environmental Science. “AP classes made me want to shoot myself, but my friends helped me through them.”

Friends are a huge part of Brittany’s life. She hangs out with many different types of people that all help contribute to her unique personality. One of them being her best friend, Joshua Newsom. “Josh is the person that I have the craziest inside jokes with and we pretty much finish each other's sentences...which is kind of creepy.” Leslie Estrada is one of her most treasured friends, “She's the sweetest, most down-to-earth girl I've ever known and I can tell her everything.” Kim Ip, one of the many new friends she made this year, is, in Brittany’s words “One of the nicest people I've ever known and I'm so happy to be going with her to college.” Zack Roddy has also had a big impact on Brittany, “He's one of the funniest, most down to earth guys I've ever met and I know we'll be making fun of how cracked out Lindsay Lohan is until we're 80.” One of the most important people in her life would have to be Kelly McManus. “We clicked instantly and have been best friends since the beginning of last year and now, as my boyfriend, it's no different.”

Starting college in the fall, Brittany will be attending Cal Poly Pomona next year and is anxious to start as a business major. She does not know what kind of career to dive into yet, but has some guidelines.” I don't want to be stuck in a cubicle. I want to interact with people and show off what's going through my head.” Brittany has already has quite a creative job. She works as a sales rep at Francesca's Collections in Manhattan Village. “We get some crazy customers, but I love working with clothes and jewelry.”

For a California breed girl, Brittany tends to enjoy the lighter side of life. She loves hanging out with friends, going to movies (especially Edward Norton and zombie movies), seeing some of her favorite bands, like Tiger Army, play and just cruising in her red 1989 BMW 325i. “I feel so free when I'm in it. I open up the sunroof (which is cool because it's pretty much always sunny) and just blast music and drive.”

Brittany is unique, cleaver, and down to earth.  I have had the pleasure of getting to know her. She knows how to have fun, let loose, but still keep her head on straight. Brittany only has a few words to leave behind, “Don't spend your days regretting anything you do or where you are, because it's only going to bring you down.” Try to take her advice and be as care free as the girl with the heart of gold.
