Now that the long-awaited third installments of Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek, and Spiderman have been released, many
may think that there are no more reasons to go to the movies this summer, but here are five movies that will (hopefully) renew your faith
in the cinematic institution that is Summer Movies.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (July 11):
Just days before the last Harry Potter book is released, the fifth Harry Potter movie comes out. If your memory serves you
well, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire ends with a battle between Harry and Voldemort. Order of the Phoenix begins with Harry
realizing that the wizarding community has been lied to about the events Harry has gone through. Keeping up with tradition, Hogwarts
has yet another Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, though this one is appointed by the Ministry of Magic. Harry Potter and the Order
of the Phoenix once again brings together the now familiar cast of Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, along with Ralph Fiennes, and Emma Thompson.
Hairspray (July 20):
Based on the immensely popular Broadway production, Hairspray is about an overweight teen that makes it onto a Baltimore
dance show in the 1960s. Starring an all-star cast of John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, and Queen Latifah, the musical turned movie shows the racial tensions of the 60s, and sure to be incredibly funny at the same
time. Be sure to catch it in theaters.
Evan Almighty (June 22):
Steve Carrell returns in Evan Almighty, the highly anticipated sequel to 2003s Bruce Almighty, as Evan Baxter, news anchor
extraordinaire. In Evan Almighty, Evan moves to Virginia after being elected to Congress. Life is relatively simple for Baxter until he
meets God, who tells him a flood is impending, and Evan must build an ark to save Earth’s population.
