7th Heaven

By Lena Hedayat

After eleven years, 7th Heaven has finally reached its end. The culminating season began on Monday, September 25, 2006, and ended on May 13, 2007. The Camden family, ever since August 26, 1996 when the show premiered on the WB, has been through happiness, tragedy, and sometimes issues that turned out to be devastating. The show dealt with drunk driving, teen suicide, homelessness, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, negative peer pressure, war in Iraq, and a wide variety of issues. Even through the worst problems, the Camdens were always there for each other. In the beginning Matt Camden (Barry Watson) was 17; Mary Camden (Jessica Biel) was 14; Lucy Camden (Beverly Mitchell) was 12; Simon Camden (David Gallagher) was 10; and Ruthie Camden (Mackenzie Rosman) was 5. Sam and David Camden (Lorenzo and Nikolas Brino) were born during the 1998-1999 season. Stephen Collins played Eric Camden, pastor of the town’s church in Glen Oaks, California, and Catherine Hicks took the role of Annie Camden, his wife. All the kids have grown up quite a bit, and the three oldest pursue careers and marriage, while the younger ones are continuing to grow older. This successful hit on the WB ended with Eric and Annie making the decision to take an RV through America in celebration of Eric’s heart recovery. Lucy and Kevin planned on joining the rest of the family on the RV trip. Ruthie had returned from Scotland on account of her father’s heart condition, and gets back together with T-Bone. Mary moved to New York to be a teacher, while Matt and Sarah live there as doctors. Simon was on his last year of college, and Sam and David were the only two kids left living at home with the longtime pet, Happy. This show had been running eleven years, and while some were glad to see this show go, others already miss it.
