Football keeps it even

The El Segundo Eagles
are 1-1 in the Pioneer League, with a win against the Torrance
Tartars and a loss against the Centennial Apaches.
On October 13 the Eagles engaged in recreation with the
Torrance Tartars. The Eagle offence conquered the Tartar defense
with touchdowns form seniors John Yessner, Travonn Smith, junior
Luke Yessner and sophomore Gage Mortesen. Senior Mike Quinones
completed 11/19 with 271 yards. J. Yessner caught 5 passes for 142
yards, Smith captured only one pass but for a stupendous 40 yards
and senior Tyler Murray ran a received for a total of 65 yards.
Defensively, some of the Eagles really stepped it up. Senior Cameron
Garlitos walloped the Tartar offence with 9 tackles and Smith had a
total of 8 tackles. Coming out with a triumph over the Tartars, the
Eagles held the final score of 29-16.
Six days later, on a Thursday, the Eagles suit up for a
game against the Centennial Apaches. Quinones completed 21/36 for a
total of 234 yards. Mortesen ran 13 times for 67 yards. Sophomore
Kevin Post caught 4 passes for 42 yards and J. Yessner snatched 8
passes for 122 yards. On the defense Mortesen lead the defense and
created 9 tackles. But the Eagles came up short, with the final
score of 16-19.
The Eagles are off to a fine start, with just only one
loss. If they can win the rest of the season and finish 4-1 they
will definitely be a contender to win CIF. |
