Halloween Costumes: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
by Kai Van Dusen, Staff Writer
Halloween is just
around the corner and you have to pick the right costume. There are
so many out there but you want the best. Its not that hard to pick a
good costume for Halloween it all depends on what you want to do,
you will have to pick between scary and funny and anything in
between. Not only that but you will have to avoid the overdone, the
over worn and the plain ridiculous to pick the perfect costume.
Try and avoid these tacky and completely pointless
costumes and you can at least avoid people talking about you behind
you back. First of all, the pimp costume. This costume may be funny
and cool for about five minutes. The truth is that this costume is
one of those that has been around for a while and has been worn by
everyone and his brother since its debut in the 70s. Secondly, try
and avoid the cheap super hero costumes, they tend to make you look
less like Batman or Superman and more like a dork. Last, the worst
of them all, the scream costumes. Scream the movie was released in
1996, I think that it is time to retire this costume, it might have
been scary in the 90's when the movie was released but almost ten
years have passed since the movie came out you just look like a
loser wearing this.
Next come the good costumes, these are the costumes
that you are probably going to want to look at. First there's the
pirate. This costume is fairly easy to pull off no matter what your
budget and ever since the release of the Pirates of the Caribbean
movies these costumes have returned in popularity. Usually movie
based costumes are great; just make sure that the movie is
relatively new. There are some exceptions such as donning a toga a
la Animal House or anything from Monty Python and the Holy Grail
seems to be popular. Finally ninja, after all…who doesn't like a
ninja? There are also plenty of makeup packages and costume kits out
there that are perfect for making an original costume which usually
turn out well.
These are the costumes that we all wish we could get.
If you are willing to dish out some cash these costumes are perfect
for Halloween. First, a deluxe Leatherface costume, even though it
is expensive (about $110) it would be the perfect costume to get to
scare people late at night due to the release of the new movie. Any
of the Creature Reacher costumes are great costumes that would go
well in a haunted house but most of them are priced around $300.
Finally all of George Lucas's fans would love to get their hands on
a deluxe Darth Vader or Chewbacca costume but these costumes are
highly detailed raising their prices to unbelievable amounts. The
Chewbacca suit costs $450 while the Vader costume is the most
expensive costume that I have ever seen, priced at $800.
