Senior Spotlight: Erin Matchett
By Zack Roddy, Editor-in-chief

Being a year younger than most of the senior class might be hard for some, but Erin Matchett has adjusted well to life. Erin is not only a good student, participating in a wide variety of school activities, but she is also a loving daughter and loyal friend.
Erin Aileen Matchett was born in Fairfield, California January 27, 1990, and she now currently resides in El Segundo, moving to the district in 1997. She now currently resides with her father and mother, Terry and Wendi, her older brother Robby, and her dog Lady. Of her family members, Erin sights her mother as having the greatest impact on her life. “My mother has definitely had the greatest impact on the choices I've made throughout my entire life”, she says, “She is my role model, motivator and best friend. She pushes me in the right direction without telling me what to do, leaving me room to make my own decisions and live my life according to the values that I think are important. I'm too young to realize that certain things are impossible, and I love it.”

In terms of the high school path, Erin has participated in just about everything, showing great range and skill in each new activity.
“I've jumped around the activity board so much in the last four years that many would think I am a very indecisive person!” says Erin. “I've done everything from Cheer to Choir, Yearbook, Drama, Animal Rights Club, Key Club and Academic Decathlon. I didn't want to leave high school without trying it all!” When asked whom she would describe as her hero, Erin had this thoughtful statement to offer. “Heroic qualities can be found in your average person. The parent who gives up everything so his child can attend college is a hero. Musicians hoping to incite change through their lyrics are heroes. Friends are heroes. Vegetarians are heroes.”
But chief among Erin’s high school achievements is her position as Editor of the High School Yearbook for two years running. Although I recently received a bronze medal at the Academic Decathlon Competition in the category of music, being chosen as editor of the yearbook my junior AND senior years have been my greatest high school achievement thus far. Last year's book was DEFINITELY a learning experience. I am promising the student body a better product this year- and I have an amazing staff to help me do it!”
In her spare time, Erin likes living the life of any teenager- with a little bit of physical fitness on the side. “I love living an active lifestyle- whether it's going to the gym, running on the strand with my dog, or biking to the beach- exercise makes you feel amazing!” Along with her strict exercising regimen, Erin also likes spending time with her close friends, and working at her job.  “I enjoy spending time with my incredible friends- they're hilarious and they mean the world to me. I love being out and about- sitting at home is not my forte. And, of course, I work at the Starbucks in Hermosa Beach. I LOVE my job and the people I work with- they're a riot.”
In the future, Erin is unsure of which college she will be enrolled in, but is certain that she will be attending one in fall 2007. “There is no doubt I will be enrolled in college in the fall of 2007, I'm just not sure which one! I plan to major in political science or communications, whichever I fall in love with first. I've been looking forward to college since elementary school, and can't wait to delve into the university lifestyle!” With an ambitious future laid before her, Erin Matchett faces each new day with a sense of optimism and accomplishment, inspiring others around her to better themselves as well. Armed with her friendliness and easy to like personality, Erin Matchett is sure to be a contribution to the future ahead.
