Music and Lyrics
By Kim Keener, Staff Writer

Music and Lyrics is a Valentine’s Day romantic comedy done in classic style, starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant.  In Music and Lyrics, Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is an 80s has-been from the band, Pop, who is trying to make his way to the top again.  On his way there, he gets a deal from big number one Buddhist pop star Cora, who is allegedly bigger than both Cristina and Britney.    Pop’s song helped Cora get through a rough time in her life, so she wants Alex to write her a hit song, the only problem is that Alex has not written a hit song in ten years.
Meanwhile, Sophie, (Drew Barrymore) is filling in for one of her friend’s, Jane, who waters Alex’s plants.  While Sophie is watering his plants, she unthinkingly fills in a line or two. Since, Alex is desperate he begs her to help him write the song, Sophie refuses at first but then Alex convinces her to help him with his vintage booty shaking skills. Sophie’s only problem is her ex. He is a best selling writer, who wrote a book about a character who was inspired by Sophie. The book claims that Sophie is a mock of a writer who tries to seduce her professor and use him for his resources, so now, Sophie has to find the courage to face her fears and prove him wrong.
This adorable story is full of unexpected laughs and surprises that will warm the coldest heart.  Sophie, reminds girls that not everyone is perfect by having embarrassing habits, like talking to herself, hiding from her problems, spilling coffee, rearranging furniture , and freaking out over the tiniest cut.  Hugh Grant brings laughter to the movie when he pulls a muscle doing the famous pop hip thrust, and eventually has to have a transplant.  Cora brings new meaning to the word slut with her tedious skimpy outfits and dance moves.  Cora’s wedding brings evidence that she is detail oriented because the wedding was nine hours and the marriage only lasted three.
