Not many people can boast about going to the beach in the middle of December. However, when 70 degrees is the dead of winter, it may not seem like the holidays are coming. Sure, the sunny days are nice, but since college is about expanding horizons some students may hope to experience something that has not happened near LAX since the early 1960s: snow. True, Big Bear is only 2 hours away, but there is nothing like waking up in the morning and trudging to class through inches of fresh snow. Cabrini College Located in Radnor, Pennsylvania, Cabrini College is perfect for someone looking for a small school in the northeast. With only 1715 undergraduates, it is almost impossible to be lost in the crowd. Founded in 1957 by a Jesuit ministry, this is a relatively new school in which religion is an important part. Aside from religion, Cabrini also emphasizes community service balanced with a demanding liberal arts education. Cabrini offers over 50 majors, and most of the graduating student body enters the work force right away, instead of immediately enrolling in a graduate program. While there is a 65% rate of acceptance, the average combined SAT score on the 1600 scale is 890 - 1090 and the majority of students had a high school GPA of 2.5 to 2.99. Though not the best school, Cabrini College is still a very good one that any student should be proud to call their alma mater. Between the activities on campus and the academics, one may believe that there is no time or not reason to leave such a beautiful campus. However, with the heart of Philadelphia only 30 minutes away, students can easily travel to such sites as South Street to eat an infamous Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and downtown to see historical sites or museums. University of New Haven Despite its name, University of New Haven is actually located in West Haven, Connecticut. However, it is only 9 miles from New Haven, so there is no need to worry about being stuck in the middle of nowhere. In fact, New York City is only 75 miles from the campus, so while not busy studying, students can enjoy the sights and cheesecake of New York and be back to campus for class by the next day. While there are only 2744 undergraduates, University of New Haven is not the most competitive school. There is a 73% acceptance rate and most of the undergraduates were in the top half of their graduating class. The average SAT score on the 1600 scale is a 930-1150, which is quite good. University of New Haven is, no doubt, a respectable school with a reasonable athletics program. Ranked in Division II of the NCAA, University of New Haven plays many schools of the California State University system. Despite what one might wish for, sports are not the focal point in any college experience, and University of New Haven offers associates and bachelor's degrees in multiple majors. While this may be a perfect fit when it comes to colleges, University of New Haven is a private school and costs around $36,000 a year. Seton Hill University Like
Cabrini College, Seton Hill University is located in Pennsylvania
and is a Roman Catholic university. However, contrasting Cabrini,
Seton Hill is located 35 miles from Pittsburgh in Greensburg. It is
small, with only 1374 undergraduates, and is located in an area
inhabited by 40,000 people, and so while the campus is small, the
town is large enough to offer anything that the campus may lack. A
small school and campus does not mean it is void of social
activities; Seton Hill offers choral, musical, and dance groups,
along with a student government and a student newspaper. Not only
does Seton Hill offer a multitude of activities, but is an
intellectually challenging school. The average SAT score on the
1600 scale is 990-1100 and the majority of undergraduates had a high
school GPA of 3.0 or higher. Seton Hill offers an intellectually
stimulating environment, offering a variety of majors. Also, Seton
Hill graduates have a 29% rate of immediately pursuing a graduate
degree after commencement. Hence, Seton Hill instills a love for
learning in their students and fosters ambitious attitudes. This
university offers not only the academic aspect of college needed for
success, but also provides a campus rich in social activities. |
