Blood Diamond: an Action-packed Story about the Sierra Leone
Diamond Wars
By Kai Van Dusen, Staff Writer
Written by Charles Leavitt and directed by Edward Zwick, Blood
Diamond, starring Djimon Hounsou, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer
Connelley, illustrates life in Africa during the wars for the
diamond fields in Sierra Leone.
Solomon Vandy is a fisherman who
lives in a village situated in the middle of a conflict between
rebels and government soldiers. When he is captured by the rebels
and forced to work in their diamond mine camp, he finds a large pink
diamond that happens to be priceless, he buries it just outside the
rebel camp just as the base is attacked by government soldiers who
imprison him.
In jail Solomon meets Danny Archer (DiCaprio)
a diamond smuggler who overhears the diamond Solomon has found.
Archer is able to make a compromise with Vandy, if Archer can help
him find his family he will show him to the diamond.
However, while the two were
imprisoned, complications arose and Solomon's son (Kagiso Kuypers)
has been forced to join the rebel army. Archer and Solomon go on
the journey to find the diamond and find Solomon's son. The trio
must dodge rebels and battle zones as well as evade Archers angry
associates to acquire the diamond and reunite Solomon's family.
The movie has a great story as well
as a good share of action. The movie is not for those who are
squeamish when they see blood or for those who can not sit in a
movie theater for almost 2 and a half hours. If you have some time
in your schedule and do not get faint when you see blood I highly
recommend going to see this while it is still in theaters.
