!Hola, Senorita Easlick!
By Varun Roperia, Staff Writer

Miss Easlick is one of the newest members of the faculty on campus.  She came to us after school started and she now teaches Spanish 1, 2 and English as a second language. Her story is one of travel and many different schools. Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Miss Easlick went to two different middle schools, two separate high schools, and five different universities, one of which was in Mexico! Interestingly, Miss Easlick never dreamed she would be a teacher. In fact, she said that because "Both of my parents were teachers, I didn't want to copy what they did." Originally studying to become a police officer, she later decided that the profession was too negative to suit her tastes. In light of this, she changed her mind and decided to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).  During the time she studied for these careers, she put herself through college by working at 3 different veterinary hospitals.
However, during a two-week vacation in Mexico, Miss Easlick learned quite a bit of Spanish, and decided to go to school there so that she could learn more about the culture and language. She soon enrolled for three semesters at college, spending one year immersed in the language and culture. She says she often strives to keep an "open mind" and after so much exposure to Spanish, Miss Easlick decided to teach the language, and share her passion for the Hispanic culture and Spanish language with her students.  "I try to teach students in a realistic manner. I have a practical outlook on the language and try to teach my students to view the language as useful, rather than as a waste or as a required course." With this pragmatic outlook, Miss Easlick wants to contribute to ESHS an idea she believes is very important: That students are more than simply students, but are also people, with their own lives, personalities, and backgrounds. This, she feels, is important to remember as it can greatly influence the way a teacher teaches, and ESHS is fortunate to have such a teacher join the community.
