The tennis season thus far has shaped up like our previous seasons. With an overall record of one win and fifteen losses and a league record of zero wins and nine losses, mixed results have held the team back from deserved recognition. Our recent games against Santa Monica and Bishop Montgomery have revealed one problem our team must surmount. The Eagles’ doubles partners performed well in both of these games, with Max Tonner and Mike Vaughn winning two of their three sets in the game against North Torrance while Andy Stier and Andrew Gen won all three sets against Montgomery and two against North. Unfortunately, our singles players have not been performing as well as could be hoped, as Justin Tee and Beau Tagaki getting the only two wins out of the nine sets played against North Torrance; however, Max Tonner won all three of his sets previously against Bishop Montgomery. At the game against Culver City last Thursday, the Eagles failed to keep up and we lost the majority of the eighteen sets, 5-13. Eagle winners in Culver City were Tee and Vaughn each with a one set win in singles, Cody Finfrock and Sebastian Alt’s one set win in doubles, and Stier and Gen’s two-set win in doubles. The Eagles have lost all of their matches since their last victory, which was against Bishop Montgomery on March 7.
All, however, is not so grim. The Eagles should be able
to pull it together in time for their game against South Torrance
and avenge themselves of that loss. There is also great hope for the
future since most of the players are young and will be returning.
