Softball Begins Great Season
By Evan Parker, Staff Writer

Since last publication, El Segundo’s softball team has played three league games, giving the Eagles a 3-0 record in Pioneer league, with eleven games to go, six of which are league. All in all, El Segundo is 10-4 in the season so far. It is looking like another great season for them.

Starting March 31, the team went on a 4 win streak, routing their opponents Troy High, Centennial, Torrance and San Louis Obispo decisively, interrupted by a shut-out loss to Royal High. Since then, the Eagles have won three straight, beating out La Quinta High by a score of 1-0, Simi Valley by a score of 4-3 and Lawndale High, shutting them out for an 8-0 win.

The Eagles clenched the La Quinta win in the 7th inning, but scoring one run at the last second, the only run of the game. The game aaginst Simi Valley looked grim after the top of the 7th inning, but a game winning run scored for El Segundo to finish the game with a one-run win. In this most recent game, El Segundo scored nearly every inning, minimized on errors and had 8 runs on 8 hits. The Eagles’ pitching played well, only allowing 2 runs by their opponent.

The current win streak for the Eagles looks to be going a lot farther, and hopefully they can win league with an undefeated record. So far the season has been very successful for the Eagles, who have capitalized on their entire league qualifying games. Good luck!
