2007 Talent Show
By Lena Hedayat, Staff Writer

The 2007High School Talent show was a hit in every way this year. There were several acts filled with great talent and every participant worked hard to pull off an awesome performance. The show contained lots of variety and diversity, ranging from poetry reading to beat boxing. Senior Maureen Pacheco, who took third place after reading some great original poetry, did an amazing job with her work. Both poems were interesting to listen to, and held a lot of meaning. Hopefully she will continue to excel with her writing. Second place was handed to Anne Ville after their spectacular performance of “Sundown,” an original piece. With sophomores Ian Maloney on the drums, James Meyerhoff as lead guitar, Alex Richardson as bass, and C.J. Mahoney as singer and keyboardist, there was no doubt about their superb talent. The first place winner was junior Elora Montgomery after an astounding job singing “God Bless the Child” with Gary Fritzen on the piano.

After giving a hand to all the winners, even those who were not awarded still did a splendiferous job with their own acts and deserve a pat on the back: juniors Chris Gomez and Fernando Guzman who rapped “Raw” and kept a great beat. Seniors Lauren Van Hoy and Michelle Huang had put together an amazing dance duet; freshman Nicole Stier took the stage with “Popular” a song she sang from the musical Wicked. Junior Priya Kaur performed a dance solo, Jamie Barnhart sang “Time After Time” with a pianist, and seniors Kelly Barnard, Ida Legesse, Monica Dagan, Brittany Sproul, with juniors Brianna Hudson and Codi Veal danced to “Two Step.” Senior Corinne Hongo played the taiko drums to an impressed audience, junior Kelsey Bullock and senior Corinna Ductor did an incredible dance duet to the song “Uninvited.” Freshmen Erika Clarke sang the song “Only Hope.” Seniors Jimmy Talbot and Ralph Guerra captured the audience’s attention with a beat box duet. Guerra though, said, “I don’t think a ‘party in my mouth’ was inappropriate, and I felt like I released my spirit on stage.” Now that was just Act One of the show, which was filled with some pretty praiseworthy stuff.

Act Two was all about: Zookeepers, Brian Crist (bass), Jason Kryske (guitar), Joel Meyerhoff (drums), and Michaela (singer), who played “I Love Rock and Roll.” Junior Sophia Manouchehry played the guitar and sang “The First Cut is the Deepest”, the band Pillage, sophomore Ramiro Lopez De Medina (singer), freshman Joey Magdaleno (guitar), Brian Crist (bass), and Joel Meyerhoff (drums) played “Cat Scratch Fever”, soon after was our winner, Elora Montgomery. Freshman Cody Gilberts then played his own guitar solo and Thunder from Down Under, juniors Nicholas Chieppa (singer), Jason Stone (drums), seniors Kegan Portillo (bass), and Jason Sperling (guitar), came out with “Bulls on Parade.” Sophomores Delaney Borders, Aryelle Tomlinson, Keanu Garlitos, seniors Daytona Borders, Robert Roberts, Cameron Garlitos, junior Jonathon McDonald, and freshman PJ Tulikihihifo performed a “Mix” hip hop dance. Junior Matt Pittluck had this to say of the act: “I thought they should have one, and I thought they were robbed. “  It seems that after them, everyone thought the show was over cause they just got up and left, not realizing the second and third placers were the next to perform, for Maureen read her poetry, and Anne Ville ended it. Freshman Courtney Olson says, “The talent show overall was a big hit, and all of the dancers did a phenomenal job.”
