Riding high off their 7-0 romp of Santa Monica, the Eagles looked double up on the Vikings on the road.  However, Santa Monica wasn’t eager to comply with El Segundo’s wishes.  The Vikings jumped out to a quick 5 to 0 lead in the first two innings.  Santa Monica poured in 6 more runs during the top of the third to climb to an 11 run lead.  El Segundo fought back, led by Derrick Duarte who went 4-4 and picked up an RBI.  Steven Eno also contributed with a big double and El Segundo scored 8 runs in the final 4 innings.  But, the El Segundo push came to late, and Santa Monica took a 15 to 8 victory.   The two teams combined for 28 hits, and Bobby Summers caught the loss.

Looking to rebound from a tough loss, the Eagles traveled to South Torrance.  El Segundo bounced back in yet another offensive minded game.  After falling behind 7-3, the Eagles rallied and went on to win 11 to 8.  Chris Ornelos led the high-octane charge, as he hit two over the fence.  Kevin Wright also went long for a home run, and Steven Eno, Matt Engle, and Brad Franks hit doubles.  Ricky Talanoa pitched for the win.

Two days later the Eagles matched up with South again.  In a pitcher’s duel, El Segundo only managed two hits, compliments of Eno and Duarte.  South took the game with a solo homerun and Hendrich got the loss.  The 1 – 0 loss put the Eagles at 7-4 overall and 2-2 in league.

Next, El Segundo faced up against the Mira Costa Mustangs.  The game was another low scoring battle, and the Eagles scored their only run when Phil Goff walked with the bases loaded.  In the final inning, with a 3-1 count and two outs, Costa smacked one in play and stole the game.  Talanoa, had 3Ks, but got the unfortunate loss, (3-2).   The back-to-back tough losses but the Eagles under .500, with a 8-9 record overall and a 2-3 league record.

Two days later the Eagles looked for revenge, but Costa came out swinging.   The Mustangs drove in 6 runs in the second inning and 5 runs in the fourth to clinch the win.  El Segundo was shut out and gave up 14 hits.  The Eagle’s closest chance was when Goff was tagged out at the plate.

The Eagles looked to stop the downward slide with a win against the Peninsula Panthers.   However, the Panthers scored in every inning and won 14 to 6, with 14 hits.  The Eagles scored all 6 runs in the final inning to make the loss more respectable.   The Panthers had five batters with multiple hits and hit two ball out of the park in the fifth inning.  Engle provided a bright spot in the game with a 3-run homerun and Wright had a solid double.

Halfway through the season, Tino Gomez leads the Eagles with a batting average of .489, which is also 7th in the area.  Eno leads the team in doubles and steals, with 7 and 5 respectively.  Ornelos is the Eagles main run scorer, with 18 RBIs and 4 homeruns.

After losing 8 of their last 10, El Segundo was really hoping to rebound against Peninsula when they faced the Panthers at home on a Friday night.  Unfortunately, the game was a comedy of errors that the Eagles didn’t find very funny.   The Panthers took a 6-0 lead in the third inning and went on to maul the hapless Eagles.  The Peninsula pitching staff allowed only two hits and garnered 14 strike-outs.  In a Bubba Sparxxx type ugly game, Peninsula went on to win 14-0.

After a sound trouncing, the Eagles traveled to West Torrance to take on the Warriors.  However, as history tends to repeat itself, the Eagles again found themselves on the wrong side of the winning column.  El Segundo committed 5 errors, and lost 8 to 2.  The loss set the Eagles at 8-13 overall and 2-7 in league.
