The Bottom of the Chain

In high school there is a system of status. In a way this little system is like the food chain.

The seniors are at the top of the chain, then juniors, sophomores, and on the bottom of the chain are the freshmen. High school is fine and everything, but being a freshman is not always a good thing. As a freshman you come into the school thinking, “I am finally here, now, I will be taken a little more seriously.” Then you hear all of those comments about how freshmen are so stupid and immature. That is when you realize that you are at the bottom of the chain.

Just like the food chain there is someone at the top.  The people at the top are the seniors. They are treated like royalty. They completely control the school (with the acception of the staff, of course). What they say, goes. They are like lions in the food chain, devouring everything and anything in their path. They show no mercy for the little people, especially the Freshmen. Then again, everyone picks on the little Freshmen.

Next are the Juniors, who are right below the “lions” they are kind of like the vultures of the food chain. How can Juniors possibly be compared to vultures? Well, much like vultures they may not be appreciated but they aren’t going to be messed with.  Juniors like vultures, are respected but they still cannot wait until they are seniors so that they can be in complete and total control.

The worst on the food chain are the Sophomores. They are basically like the rodents of the food chain. Not all of them, of course, but the majority of the Sophomores are. They think that they are the hot stuff. For people who were just freshmen,  Sophomores are acting pretty high and mighty. I cannot even remember the number of times that I have heard things like “stupid little freshmen. When asked what she thought about freshmen, Sophomore, Saileha Bholat made a simple comment that says it all, “Freshmen are so immature.” Sophomores seem to have forgotten that they were Freshmen not too long ago. The word Sophomore does not mean superiority.

And lastly on the food chain are the little freshmen. They are at the bottom of the chain. They are like the bacteria of the food chain; they are even lower than bread mold (only because bread mold can be used for penicillin.) That is how the Freshmen at this school are treated, at least.  Yes, there are some immature Freshmen in this school, but then again, aren’t there some immature seniors too? I just hope that the Freshmen can survive our first year of big bad high school. Freshmen are treated like the gum on the bottom of someone’s shoe.

It does not matter where you are on the food chain or how old you are, just try to remember the golden rule, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
