Getting
yelled at, pain, mental and physical discipline, exercise, training,
honor, courage, and commitment are some of the aspects of training and
service that many people are willing to experience in order to defend
their country. But, having to go through boot camp is no joke. From personal
experience, having to go through two minutes of Marine Corps Boot Camp
through a special band program in the San Diego base it is easy to say
that having to go through that for three months is not an easy task.
Many believe that because of their physical traits or capability,
if they would not be able to make it. But, if they have the desire of
wanting to achieve something great is enough to help them achieve. People often feel that
boot camp is a place for bad people, but in reality it is a place were
strong people and achievers go to pursue the joy and satisfaction of
achieving not only the title marine but the self-satisfaction of knowing
they did something great with their lives. Marine Corps require a high
school diploma and at least a 3.0 GPA or better for new out of high school
recruits. If any one wonders what
it would be like to be in the Marines, you may want to join a week or two
of devil pups or any other mini session of boot camp just to get a taste
of what a marine recruit goes through for months and even years. In case
anyone wonders what to do with their lives after graduation, remember
there are many options. Some are better than others. Many cannot but handle
with the idea of having to go through the so called tortures of boot camp
such as; waking up early, eating at certain times (not in between, before,
or after), marching (all day), shouting, exercising, training, and
solitude. No communication with the outside world for three months or
longer. Having to go through all of this is challenging and difficult but
an ambitious nature can help one strive through physical and mental
weaknesses. Marine Corps recruits come in to campus every year to speak
with students being a Marine as one of their options after high school. Joining the marines is something one has to think through clearly. Many cannot handle the idea of their luxuries being taken away or the fact of being without their friends and family. But, the Marines aren’t the only options one has, there are also; the army, navy, air force, and other armed forces. Keep in mind that becoming a Marine does not mean you cannot go to college and have a profession. The Marines will pay for half or more of the school costs and charges. |
