Have you ever stopped to think about where your styles and trends started? Many people will say that they start their own trends, but little do they know they’re probably just bringing back old styles from before our time or from when we were too young to know fashion. History is constantly repeating itself. In case you didn’t know the late 90s repeated the 70s. Girls started wearing their hair flipped and dressing in bell-bottoms, halter-tops, and platform shoes again. Boys started sporting afros, and wearing 501s and plaid shirts. These were all trends of the 70s that were being brought back. Now that we're in a new millennium fashions seem to be getting more and more interesting. That is because history is in the process of repeating itself again. This time it took a step forward to the 80s. Just look around you. You’ll see that women and men are wearing Air Force One’s, Puma and Adidas Sweat Suits with the matching Puma and Adidas tennis shoes, denim blazers, Gucci, Luis Vuitton, and Kangol hats. These are all styles that were worn in the 80’s that our generation brought back. Ladies, did you know all the bracelets you wear along with the big-hooped earrings and the large belts are all trends that were set in the 80s? Also the Gucci, Luis Vuitton, Coach, and Prada purses come from the 80s. Oh, we can’t forget the low cut jeans, short skirts, and the jeans with the holes. There are many styles that are being repeated for girls but not too many for the fellas. There are a few styles that are obvious. You know, the Jordan’s that are being repeated with different colors and the Nike’s everyone’s wearing. The fashion industry for boys is constantly coming up with new styles. And there is one outfit that the fashion industry did bring back for the boys. That would be the velour outfit. Which was also brought back for girls. Name brands like Roca Wear, Sean John, Baby Phat, and J-Lo bringing these styles back for us. Not only are they bringing them back, but they are changing it a bit to fit what teens want to wear and they are making millions doing it. Think about it. The fashion industry is making more money repeating these styles for us than they were making when they first came out. Also, have you ever noticed that when you or one of your friends sees someone wearing something from the 80s and you don’t think it’s cute, but as soon as you see it on a music artist or someone you idolize all of a sudden becomes cute to you. Well, that’s fashion for you. The things you may think look right on one person may not look right on another because they aren’t wearing it properly. You may not have realized, but most of the styles and trends we think we set all come from others that were set at an earlier time. So if you never stopped to think where our styles come from, it is the past.
