With only a limited number of days left
and just under six weeks until the school year is out, most of us, if not
all, are already in the mood for summer. We’ve gotten lazy and
preoccupied with other things like friends, partying, and sleeping, rather
than studying, learning, and going to school every morning. In our two
month vacation from school, many of us plan special trips or outings with
family or friends, while others stay in town at home and enjoy sleeping
in. It’s nice to sleep in once in a while, but in the summer you can do
that every day! Many
students plan to do fun, enjoyable things during their time off from
school like going to the beach, hanging out with friends, going out and
partying, and sleeping. A few others plan to do more focused things like
getting a job or taking extra classes or to keep them up with what they
are going to be learning when they return to school the following autumn.
But the majority of people will be spending this summer out and about with
friends and family enjoying leisure time. They will soak up the sun and
breathe a little and relax from the pressures and expectations of school. When
asked what she will be doing this summer, Sophomore Lin Duangnapa said,
“I’m going to go to the beach, sleep in, and try to get myself a
job.” The attitude for this summer is laid-back, if not a little lazy,
but that’s okay. Having a little fun and spending your time out never
hurt anybody. While
most of us are going to have fun this summer, some of us will be getting
jobs and earning a little spending money and learning some
responsibilities as well. Sophomore Kenny Powell said, “Going to the
beach and getting a job, I’ll be working. I’ll be kept so busy, I
won’t have anytime to be bored this summer!” Make
the most of personal time while it lasts. Sophomore Susan Hall stated,
“I’m going to the beach this summer and hanging out with all my
friends, and I want to get a job to earn some spending money to but things
I like. I also want to get my license so that I can finally drive!” The
seniors this year are also leaving for college and to spread their wings
and go on their own separate ways. Before all of that they’ll be busy
partying, sleeping, and having fun. But before they leave town and each other and embark on
making something of their lives by further educating themselves and making
careers for themselves; they will enjoy each other’s company perhaps for
the last time. Senior Chel’sea Wayt said, “I’m going to party and
hang out with my friends and enjoy it. Since this is my last year of high
school, this summer is going to mean a lot to me since this is the last
time my friends and I will be together for a while and this is our last
time to be this young and care-free and all together as a group. We’re
all going out our separate ways and doing our own things on our own, so
this is our final chance to be together and make the most of it all.
It’s going to be fun.” |
