From the ninth grade until the first semester of eleventh grade, I
attended Gardena High School.
During my years there I was unable to concentrate.
In case you were wondering, here’s why:
drama, and I’m not talking about the club or the class. Not only
was there drama but violence as well.
I’m speaking of the “she said”- “he said” drama, which
led to lunchtime fights.
There were at least three to four fights a week.
Don’t get me wrong, the officers did their job, it was just that
there were just too many kids to try to tame all at once.
It’s not possible for schools to have one officer to each
student.
Life at home can play a large role in how teens act when they are
at school. If
they live in an environment where they never get discipline, chances are
they will act like hyenas at school to put on a show for someone.
Maybe they weren’t getting enough attention at home, so as a
result they fought to get the attention elsewhere.
There was one serious incident in particular at Gardena High that
led me along with many other student and parents to feel that Gardena High
wasn’t very safe.
It was a normal day, around 2:40 p.m., when everyone saw two
students being helped into an ambulance. They had been shot.
No one was killed, but that wasn’t important.
There were still parents and friends who were very concerned.
When students were let out of class at 3:00, no one knew what had
taken place. Everyone
had a different story.
Some kids weren’t let out of school until 10:00p.m. and they
really didn’t know what was going on.
All they knew was what appeared on the news.
No one had an idea of what actually had happened.
The school seemed empty the next day.
It didn’t seem the same after that.
It felt empty and deserted.
