The Power Of A Dollar Measures UP!!!

The Power Of A Dollar is immeasurable, especially at El Segundo High School. Peer Assistance has teamed up with Student Government, and together they have spearheaded a disaster relief effort. With great help from Mr. Hawkesworth and his generous donation of cans used in the classroom, we are succeeding. Sophomore Relief Committee Commissioner, Nick Koffroth says, "It makes me feel great to see the school working together to help in such a noble cause. I take great pride in the commitment and resolve of our school. It's GREAT!"

We have found that some classes have been producing more money than others, but overall the turnout has been great. In case you were wondering, we are sending the money we have been raising to the Red Cross. After the fundraiser is over, Boeing will double what we have been able to come up with. A dollar is not a lot to ask of the students at ESHS, especially since the loss that people are experiencing not only in New York but Washington D.C. are far greater. Before you stand in the snack line for your daily pretzel and cheese maybe you can find it in your heart to go without and do your part. Sophomore Anthony Stier says, "The power of a dollar is a great idea. It's nice to see the school come together. DONATE!"

El Segundo High School is not the only group raising money. ESHS Alumni Holly Lipscomb reports, "It goes farther than just ESHS. The athletic teams at CSULB are doing the same sort of program. It's an inspirational and patriotic effort." As expected such a tragedy, the Red Cross is not the only organization that can benefit. The relief effort has even expanded to the television networks. The major networks ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC have teamed together to simulcast a star studded show. According to a press release, the program is uniting the nation while paying tribute to the spirit of America. The profits from the show went to New York, and the stations picked up the fee of production costs.

Everyone around the nation has really come together in order to reach a common goal. And as Attorney General John Aschroft said, "We will rebuild New York. It's our nature. It's our spirit."
