Senior Spotlight: Michael Lebow

"Mikey is a loyal person. He's the type of person that will do anything to make the people he cares about happy. Everyone needs a friend like Mikey, and I'm glad that I can say that I have one," said Haas Sullivan class of 2001. Michael Lebow has been on the Bay Eagle staff for two years. Joining as a writer in his junior year, Mike has covered the football, basketball, baseball, and track teams for the paper. Mike came to El Segundo High School in his sophomore year, after transferring from a private school in the Pacific Palisades. Knowing no one from El Segundo, Mike quickly acclimated himself to El Segundo, made many friends, become very involved in school activities and is generally well known around campus.

He has maintained a 3.9 GPA and has taken AP Literature, AP Economics, AP Biology and AP US History. Mike has always loved sports, playing Club Basketball and AYSO Soccer for 9 years. In his sophomore year, he was the captain and starting point guard of the Sophomore Basketball team. He went on to start for JV and then due to his height and limited playing time became a fan favorite off the bench on Varsity his Senior year (Take the Charge Award, and Scholar Athlete). He also ran track his sophomore year, competing in the 100m and 400m dash, and placing in the league finals in the long jump and triple jump. Besides from academics and athletics, Mike is very active in El Segundo clubs. Mike has been the Co-President of the International Club for the past two years, the Secretary of Arms of Key Club, the Senior Treasurer of CSF, and has been a member of Biology Club and the FBLA.

In his free time, Mike loves to play sports, listen to and write/record/produce music, hang out with friends and travel. He was four-months old when he first left America. Since then, Mike has spent a sizeable amount of his free time traveling to over 30 countries in Africa, the Middle East, Latin America, the Caribbean, the South Pacific and Europe. Mike will be attending UC San Diego next year and majoring in Political Science. He then plans to go on to law school and become an attorney, politician or foreign affairs official. Personal Note From Mike: I would quickly like to thank everyone I have met from El Segundo for the great three years. It is always easy to find complaints about the school and to point to the negative times, but I can truly say that I don't think I could have had a better high school experience anywhere. From starting papers at 11pm the night before they are due, to driving to Kinkos at 2am, to CSI, to PC Beach Day, to the rallies, to Junior/Senior War, it has been great. I feel that I was able to have the quintessential high school experience, play sports, participate in extracurricular activities, party and have fun on the weekends and get a quality education. I enjoyed the community, my teachers and most of all my friends and classmates. I would like to "shout a quick holla," to PC/83out old and new, (silk, krez, drew, grant, peltz, jay, nick, shawn, tia, carly, marisol, bobs, randie, calvo, kemp, kyle, and ciji), my beautiful coronation/prom dates over the past two years, everyone on the basketball team, the whole Pliaconis crew (you know who you are), to all of my other friends who the editors will kill me if I include (you know who you are, sorry!), and of course to my family.

To everyone in the class of '02, I wish you the best of luck in all future endeavors and hopefully our paths will cross again some day. To those juniors and underclassmen that I know, the road will just get more complicated from here, so enjoy high-school life while it lasts. I cant wait to enter the college life and move to San Diego, but I know that once I'm am there I will greatly miss El Segundo. Thanks for the great moments and fun times. Go Lakers!
