With Christmas right around the corner, many
of us are starting to feel the stresses and pressures to have that
annually precise and memorable Christmas. For some, this means to get
their Christmas shopping done early, but some tend to rush it, looking
everywhere for this season’s “it” item, therefore, last minute
shopping can be a hassle. Others worry about the home- for-the-holidays
idea, cooking the perfect Christmas dinner, decorating the house with
lights and wreaths on the outside, and use the decorated tree to show off
the inside.
Worrying about the arrival of
guests is another issue. Wondering and figuring out when to expect them or
if you have to pick them up from the airport affects your peace of mind.
Another dilemma is holiday trip planning. Many people plan to visit
friends and family outside the state, the country, or locally. Many book
plane and train tickets and make plans where to stay. Many simply drive to
go visit a loved one. Getting there and making all of the plans and
budgeting your finances can be tough and time consuming.
Many students are starting to
feel similar angst for the holidays. Freshman Chris Chavez said,
“When people wait for the last minute to do all of their planning and
fixing up, such as shopping and preparing to go out of town, it can be a
real mess when you leave everything to the last moment, and with all the
rush and pressure to do everything right and on time, it can be tough.”
A critical point is made by Junior
Catherine Simms, “People should focus on finishing up their
Christmas shopping and trip planning earlier before the holiday, so they
won’t be rushed and uptight about hurrying to do everything all at once.
Leaving all of your plans and priorities to the last minute is not only
irresponsible, it stresses you out and worries you. To do everything ahead
of time will not only save you time, but save you a headache.” Whatever your plans for this Christmas holiday may be, if you are the last-minute type who puts everything off, or the early bird who goes out and finishes up all your planning early, remember that all that matters is that it gets done. If you are having trouble booking a flight and finding a place to stay, or making sure the house is just right, or getting all the things that are on your loved one’s wish list, then try to get it done soon and don’t be so worried. Preparing for the holidays can be fun, but last minute preparations can be overwhelming and tiresome. |
