School Site Council Minutes

September 29, 2005

 

Opening

The meeting was held in the principal’s conference room and was called to order by President, Kyle Bender.

 

Members present: Kyle Bender, Greg Burner, Julie Busch, Susan Fowler, Michael Hebert, Lorena Kramer, Bob Pederson, Chris Prengaman, Matt Raukko, Marianna Tuchscherer, and Shannon Wilkins.

And also present, Parent Alternate Susan Truax and PTA Representative Kathleen Edwards.

 

The minutes from May 19, 2005 meeting were reviewed. A motion was made by Shannon Wilkins to approve the minutes, the motion was seconded and passed.

 

New Business

The first order of new business was the election of new Council Officers. Volunteers were requested and after discussion three new Officers were elected: President – Julie Busch, Vice President – Kyle Bender, Secretary – Greg Burner.

 

Thank you to the departing Officers and welcome to the new Officers!

 

Kyle Bender announced that we still need to fill the “classified” position.

 

The new Site Council binders were distributed. We still need to collect all email addresses. Kyle Bender highlighted key areas of the binder: school plan, parent survey, etc.

 

The parent survey will be on line, need to finalize the survey earlier this year (start in October – end in December). The Site Council will not meet in December, so the parent survey will be reviewed and approved at our January meeting. This will allow the survey to be ready for parents in early February. Parent survey results should be tallied and ready for the next Site Plan review in March.

 

Shannon Wilkins announced that the school and library funding has been lumped together this year for the district. Discussion concluded that our budgets should be adequate this year.

 

Extensive discussion on Center Street, Computer Lab teacher funding ensued. During the first teacher staff meeting, the staff voted 30 – 6, to continue funding the position with no changes for the 2005 – 2006 school year.

Site Council discussed at length whether to modify the budget allocation for the next school year (2006 – 2007) to move funds from this position or not. Discussion included looking at other options (like KinderAide requests and other aides or specialists) and different funding sources.

 

Motion to accept the Center Street staff recommendation was made by Greg Burner, seconded by Kyle Bender. After further discussion the motion passed unanimously.

 

Shannon Wilkins updated the Site Council on the construction progress with the third grade class rooms. Key items included basketball goals on the 4th and 5th grade playground were in, slurry coat on the black top to be done the week of Oct. 3rd along with additional grading to the playground and the sidewalks being put in.

 

Shannon also took the action to discuss funding for technology assistants with Bruce Auld.

 

Next Center Street School Site Council meeting to take place, October 20th at 3pm, in the Principal’s Conference Room.

 

There was a motion to adjourn. The motion was seconded and accepted.
