May 22, 2008

1. Opening
   SSC President Susan Fowler called the meeting to order at 3:05pm in the conference room. Elise made a motion to approve the April meeting minutes and Emilee seconded. Voice approval given.

2. Old Business
   ELAC Committee
   Update from Marisa, Alejandra Kaiser is on board as parent representative for the district and will try to organize something for Back-To-School night 2008.
   
   A Big thank you was extended to Elise Millette and Simetra for updating the Center Street School website with the Parent Survey results. It looks great and we hope it will encourage even more responses next yera.

3. New Business
   School Plans
   Marisa advised that the School Plan will go before the Board next Tuesday, May 27th for approval. After reviewing the plan Marisa felt that we needed one more goal regarding “Wellness”, basically stating the continuation of the efforts of the wellness committee and our physical education program. Lynette made a motion to add an additional goal to the School Plan per Marisa’s recommendation, Susan seconded, voice approval given.
   
   There was discussion about whether or not any purchases had been made from the proposals presented by Rebecca Wright and Bain Walters. Marisa advised that we have not yet moved forward with any purchases since the school board still must approve the plan. The art portion has just been finalized, input was requested from all grade levels and is now received, so the entire School Plan with the additional goal on wellness will go before the school board on Tuesday.

4. Elections
   Susan opened discussion regarding elections for next year. We have several members who have served their full term and need to plan to hold elections at the beginning of next school year. As we have done in the past an announcement will be made in the Cougar News requesting nominations for School Site Council positions. Nomination forms will be printed on the reverse side of the Cougar News and the election process will begin. Additionally for this year, Marisa will send announcements via List Serve to subscribers’ email addresses in an effort to get greater participation. The open positions are:
   
   • 3 parent representatives
   • 2 teacher (1 and 1 alternate)
   • 1 PTA representative
   
   
5. Open Discussion
   The Distinguished School Awards dinner was held on, Friday, May 16th, in attendance were; the principal, a parent, a Board Member and two teachers, including this year’s Teacher of the Year recipient.
   
   
   Marisa extended a sincere Thank You to the School Site Council for all of their support and hard work.
6. Meeting Adjourned at 3:20 p.m.
   Next meeting date TBD in September.
