February 19, 2009

1. Opening
   SSC President Bob Pederson called the meeting to order at 3:03 pm in the conference room.

2. Approval of Minutes – December 18, 2008
   

   The minutes of the Jan. 15th meeting were distributed for review via email and at the meeting. Kim Jones made motion to approve the minutes and Adam Guy seconded. Voice approval given.

3. Principals Report
   Trash Free Tuesday

   Trash Free Tuesday has started.

   Educational Garden

   We will have a Family Garden Work Day on March 7th. The irrigation went in today.

   Family Chalk Day

   The event went very well. Lots of families attended and was followed up with a PTA meeting where Dr. Yantz spoke about the budget. He showed a slide show that can be found on the ESUSD website. Parents asked what they can do and some ideas were:

   1. Join Boost Our Schools Program through ES Ed. Foundation
   2. Join PTA – still trying for 100% participation
   3. Get Child to School Everyday
   4. Do the Parent Survey
   Latin Club

   This is run by Mr. Guy starting Tuesday afternoons in March. It is a club for 4th graders.

   5th grades Noon League Basketball

   5th grades Noon League Basketball is up and running.

   Choir Competition
   

   PTA will pay the competition fees for the choir to enter a competition.

4. Review of Budget

   The district has asked each school site to give back its site allocation monies (used for teacher and school supplies). In order to do so each site will have to pull from other sources to cover monies already spent and for the rest of the school year. Center Street will pull money from it facilities money and money earned from loaning our site to TV/movie productions. Emilee Layne made a motion to give the district back all Site Allocation funds and Greg Gabel seconded it.

5. Parent/Teacher/Student Survey

   All surveys were reviewed. Adam Guy volunteered to rewrite opening statement for surveys with Marissa Janicek. A budget statement was added to the classified survey. All surveys were approved. Surveys will go out starting Monday, February 23rd and be closed on March 9th. A review committee of Kim Jones, Marissa Janicek, Bob Pedersen, and Emilee Layne was formed.

6. ELAC

   Alex Kaiser explained the success of the ELAC meeting. About 25 parents attended. Mr. Plotkin and Lupita Gutierrez shared about testing procedures, language scores, and strategies to help students at home.

7. New Business

   None

   Meeting Adourned at 4:19.

   The next meeting will be on March 19th.
