How You Can Help!

Center Street PTA Volunteer Opportunities 2011-2012
Please contact the school office to volunteer for any of these great ways to be involved!

CHARACTER COUNTS
Lindsay Tilney

The Character Counts program, developed by the Josephson Institute, is a program based on six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

We need volunteers in your child's classroom once a month for about 30 minutes to give a lesson on one of the Pillars of Character. Each month a Pillar is assigned so that all classes are going through the same Character traits. There are lots of resources to help volunteers bring character to the classrooms.

FOR THE LOVE OF ART - Parent Docent Art Program

Art Docent Parents attend a monthly training session where 2 art projects are taught. Parents learn/do the art project at the training. Parents work with their classroom teachers to teach the art lessons to the students. CSS PTA provides all supplies. Time commitment - 1 1/2 hours for training once a month and 1 1/2 hours per lesson in the classroom. Information meeting and 1st training session on Tuesday, Sept. 27 starting at 8:30am (information meeting) with 1st lesson training at 9:15am (approx.) in Room 3 (Art Room)

GARDEN HELPER!
Cathy Hudspeth-Shearon and Lesli Kendall

It's fun and easy, NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! You will be trained and given a lesson plan and seeds. There will be two planting days and two harvest days requiring 30- 45 minutes each. In between, you can take the kids to visit the garden as much as you wish, but hopefully, at least once a month. The biggest reward is seeing how excited the kids are to go to the garden and sample what they grow. Come to our first meeting Wed., Sept. 28th @ 8:30am.

REFLECTIONS DISPLAY SET UP
Carmelyn Vasquez

Parents are needed to help set up all the submitted work by our kids. It usually takes place in April or May and no special talent is needed other than a willingness to help. Both manpower and womanpower welcome!

ICE CREAM SOCIAL - Friday June 8th, 2012 at Center St. School
Cheryl Smith

We have many volunteer opportunities - Before the event: getting booth and candy sponsors, recruiting volunteers, getting baked goods for the cake walk, getting prizes for the games. Day of the event (June 8, 2012 3pm - 9pm): managing volunteers, setting up on the day of the event, running booths/games/concessions, breakdown of the event, scooping ice cream. We have volunteer opportunities that can take as little time as an hour or two, to others that could take a little bit of time every week over the course of a couple of months - just depends on how involved you would like to be. We will start planning/meetings for this event after January 2012.

STUDENT STORE
Kim Stevens

This commitment takes only about an hour a month. The store is open on Wednesdays during lunch for 3rd-5th graders. It requires 2 volunteers a week to open up store and sell school-related merchandise to students from about 12:00-1:00pm. It super easy and it's a fun way for parents to interact with students. The store will open the first Wednesday of October.

TRASH FREE TUESDAY VOLUNTEER
Chris Lubs

Parent volunteers are responsible for hand stamping the trash free lunchers, filling out raffle tickets for trash free lunchers (bi-monthly) and assisting the students, who have trash, to separate it into recycling, compost and trash. This is a 1.5 hour commitment (11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) on Tuesdays. Six volunteers are needed weekly. Volunteers can commit to as many or as few Tuesdays as they wish. Volunteers are scheduled one month in advance and are notified by email from a general volunteer list.

Work Room Volunteer
Ruth Cook

The parent volunteer will be asked to do prep work for kinder, die cut, pre work for all grades, copying and binding, & special teacher projects. Time commitment would be 1 hr a month or a week or as much as you can. Anyone interested should email Ruth and she will set up training based on volunteer's schedule.
